Seems like the aiming has a random element to it. I aim perfectly at the centre and hit the outer ring.

Right now the aiming is very sensitive according to the alignment of the front and rear sights. Maybe a bit too much. If the sights were bigger it might be more obvious. I was interested in making the player work hard and pause a second to get proper alignment.

Looks like you share my opinion that it's more of a toy than a game at the moment. A simple goal or more visual feedback for goal-formation is what this really needs. That's next in line.

what's the point of aiming if all my shots miss my aimer anyways? :p and it would be good if the gun started with ammo - possibly put the controls on the screen in an unobstrusive/subtle manner

Definitely would be good to start with ammo (or at least have better visual feedback). I forgot about onscreen controls, that should be easy. Thanks!
