clear cut and simple, but two things need to improve. 1: slight curvature to the paddle with applied physics to allow for greater variety of angles rather than a predictable reflective motion. 2: Increase speed of paddle movement to allow for greater coverage of the base, this will placate the fact that a slight reflection on one side (ie left) will result in a missed ball on the right due to you not being able to get to the ball fast enough.
ADD A TWIST! How about allowing forward and backward movement of the paddle within a controlled field??
