Retroid Reloaded

First off, I thought this was a beautiful and fun game - I liked the basic mechanics, and had a fun time playing. Also figuring out how to defeat the bosses was intersting.
That said, I think the weighting was a bit off. I had to grind the first level to make it past the second, but once I got to the third level, the rest of the game was much easier. In fact, I don't think I died once after the first row! The amount of gems you get barely goes up with the levels, and the upgrades don't require all that much money - I focused on the money skill and regeneration powerup, and after that things became way too easy.
Also, some of the levels on the last row were just super slow too - I think it was United Battleships and United SHooters; I spent a lot of time just waiting for them to materialize, and then one hit with my quad damage laser finished most of the enemies off.
I still finished the game, because like I said it was gorgeous and fun, but it does need a bit more of a steady challenge

Agreed on the flaws outweigh the good points. Not mentioned here: shrink the ship down a bit or increase the playfield size, there's hardly enough room to dodge anything. Ship speed is also low the the point that trying to dodge anything to start is from hell, the chump ships move as fast as you do. Having that and an arena where they appear at random and can and will box you is a shitty combination. As a side note - I can't overemphasize what Sispikey said. Yeah ok so you can alter the overheat with skills - WE DON'T CARE. IT'S STILL THAT MESSED UP. Capiche? Seriously, it's way, way, way, way the fark over the top as far as consequences. How fast you gain it I think is too much, and I don't like it, but what happens when you DO overheat is just so excessive it's not even laughable anymore.

Thegame could be good, but has a lot of flaws. First of all, it could be better explained that some weapons are not actually weapons but rather upgrades. That way I would have lost all my energy with the multi-laser that I had to pay to repair. If you are going to make something an upgrade, just make it an upgrade. What good is the multi-laser if you need to ALSO pay for a second slot to use it, evne though I have no use for the single laser anyore. That annoyed me enough to not bother repairing my ship.

Fun game! Love the visuals and control customization. More player ships would be a nice addition as well as a larger variety of weapons.
