Holding the fire button blows through all your ammo but doesn't damage the enemy any quicker.
Manually reloading overrides any ammo you still have left, thus wasting it. There's an auto reload.

You can kill a guy by shooting at him and immediately press s. it will only cost you a single bullet and you cant get hit.
