I really enjoyed this! The meaning felt like it came from the words rather than the mechanic (since most of the interaction was directed away from the family/friends). Not a bad thing - just an observation. But all-in-all, it gets the point across.

When you get a family member or friend that actually has the same name as someone you know. "Oh, I'll take special care of you."

Wow cool game, you brought a new twist into the shooter genre, but perhaps you shoud explain more to the player whats going on on the field and what the phases resemble.
ATM the Player is mostly to busy shooting at the red bad things to realy read whats going on.
And i think the Social Idea choud use a bit more deep, like asking frinds to help out or even to specilasie in defense or points support.
