Either I'm overlooking something or it takes forever before you're able to buy anything at all.

SOOOOOOO SLOW
I'm working on the relative cost/speed/progression balancing of the game, however there are plenty of ways to speed it up. Try upgrading Mining Speed for now! (v0.0.9)

Can't upgrade mining speed @ lvl 31 because my SP has disappeared. So.... What now?
Should be fixed. Let me know if it is not. (Level up again to start gaining sp)
