Very cute game, but I wish there were more to it. Maybe some quests or some sort of challenge. The game is too easy and you only need 30 strength to beat the boss. However, it's simply made, fun and engaging, and so I think it deserves a 4. :)

this is a very basic game but what you have here is done very well. i wish more starting game developers would do the same thing, know their limits, and learn the basics before trying to get too fancy.

Simple is putting it mildly...such is the strategy-fight/run...the formula-if you subtract your points from your opponents and the result is <1,run.Beyond the cat , some similar messages and the phallic art used in EBF4,this is as far from strategy/rpg as one can get.

I was at the fortress with 20 magic and 31 strength wondering how I'm supposed to beat the boss. It turns out that the dark forest is a good training area for magic, which I assume was intentional. I really liked the core mechanic: increasing your stats increased your probability of victory, and that life was only affected by the result of a binary outcome. I'd really love to know the formula you used for that. The presence of more than one stat didn't seem to serve a big purpose in the game... maybe it created an illusion of complexity and reinforced the theme, but mechanically it did almost nothing because it was mostly out of your control (with exception to the dark forest, I noticed, but even then, it wasn't obvious to me the first time). If there was a completion time given at the end, maybe it would add some replay value. Overall, a fun experience.
The formula for resolving fights is taken from a board game called Talisman. It's explained like this: https://i.imgur.com/2XE3rxr.png
As for the presence of the second stat - yeah, mechanic-wise it's pointless but adds some artificial depth. I expected more people pointing it out, but you are the first one to see through the charade. :)

Good to get back to the basics sometimes. Simple, maybe too simple....and maybe that over simplicity is what gives the game depth that you wouldn't expect until you have beaten it....wow, you really made me think there. Music was spot on, had an element of grinding but was short enough to not get boring or tedious. I like that I could keep the snowman, and did while grinded a few point because I thought, "hey, it doesn't say it's giving me a boost, but the game doesn't tell me anything so if that old man wants it it must be good." What a fool I was, but again with such simplicity and lack of information and detail it made me experience more than just making me give it to him. In closing, game was easy, game was fun, game was a game. 5/5 good sir.

How do I know if I can beat the monster? Or it is just random? Sometimes I got 5 hitpoints, and 7 magic but I can't beat a monster with 1hitpoints and 5 magic!
It's a simple mechanic. You and your enemy both roll d6 dice. You win when your stat + d6 is greater than enemy's corresponding stat + d6. Exactly like in Talisman board game.

Tried to max out Strength by farming the final fight and running, but after seeing it go to 51 I gave up :D Good game though, I enjoyed it while it lasted.
If you take a closer look, you can notice these tiny lines under str and mag stats growing each time you kill something. Your statistics are incremented after getting some xp.

i think that the cat should have liked the new owner better and with some whit, the cat should have fought you with say 30 strength and magic

Make it lv25 your magic and attack. You must fight first into lv10 and get the key at the mines. Then you unlock the castle and fight there. When you get the snowman, go to the middle town. give the snowman to the man in the bar. when you have the magic corn, find the boots at the upper right forest. then go in the lower right part town, find the magic amulet. Fight cows and shamans to level up into lv25. then plant the corn below the floating fortress and fight the noobs. -BCM's guide
