Description
An upgrade to the infamous game with a much shorter title, Desert Bus for Impatient People brings modern upgrades and a top-down perspective to improve the original's mind-numbingly boring gameplay. With a much faster journey as well as upgrades to the bus that make the trip even shorter. you can finally experience this undying classic without growing old over it!
For those blissfully unaware of Desert Bus: you are driving a bus from Tucson, Arizona to Las Vegas, Nevada. Your bus is old and crappy and the steering tends to veer to the right. Your sole job is to keep the bus from going off the road. Its a 413 miles drive on a straight road through the desert. Nothing is going to happen here, except your damn bus hitting the dirt. If you manage to get to your next stop, you will get one point to upgrade your bus (after several trips) and drive back tho where you came from.
The vast difference to the original is that your bus is going at 60 miles a minute instead of 45 miles an hour. Upgrades can make the trips even shorter, hence the name. It's still very much a game of patience and endurance, be warned.
How to Play
Use left cursor key, A key or left mouse button to prevent your bus from going off the road.
Press 1 or 2 to switch music tracks, 3 to mute music.
Developer Updates
v1.50c (2016-11-27)
Desert Bus for truly impatient people, like for real now!
- added a new upgrade: Anti-Drift gizmo! With this magical device, the broken steering of the bus finally gets fixed in three steps. At max level, the bus no longer needs any interaction from the player, but beware, this thing isnât exactly cheap âĻ
- upgrades now get progressively more expensive the more points have been spent on each one
- upgrade points now spawn during the trip. Clicking âem collects âem, so collect âem all before they disappear! Should make progression quite a bit faster and the game slightly more engaging.
- the player is now able to convert upgrade points for score points at a 10:1 ratio at every bus stop. Endgame, hoo!
- progress is now persistant between sessions! The game will automatically be saved every 20 seconds while the bus is running so the player can jump right back in where they left off. This feature requires the player to be signed into Kongregate.
- mouse controls have been removed. The last I want is some âmurican to sue me for suffering from repetive strain injury after playing my game, so itâs probably for the best. Actually I needed the mouse controls back to make the upgrade point thing (see above) work âĻ
- added the ability to stream web radio while playing! Set it up on the main menu, toggle it by pressing 4 in game
- the bus driver finally realized thereâs absolutely no traffic anyway so he has decided he will use both sides of the road
- if the player is not logged into Kongregate theyâll be asked to do so after the splash screen
- fixed some of the music tracks being played at too high volume
