Description

A little gravity sandbox I work on from time to time. Add any suggestions in the comments below!

How to Play

P : pause
While paused drag arrows to alter velocity
Use buttons at the bottom to toggle physics
Space : spawn "planet"
Enter : clear screen

Developer Updates

Go play my other (better) game 4-Way at http://www.kongregate.com/games/Frenchie14/4-way

Update V 1.1:
– Updated collision physics
– Added velocity arrows to pause screen. You can drag them around to alter a planet’s velocity!
– Removed some hot keys and added buttons instead

Update V 1.2:
– Added a repel toggle. You can now flip the effect of gravity!
– Added little tracers for a nice visual effect. You can toggle them with the “trails” button
– Graphics overhaul, thanks NASA!
– Small bug fix

Dude finish the game

I work on it from time to time. The momentum collision physics work now. My biggest problem is getting the planets to not go inside one another. In the real world this is accomplished by something called the normal force. In flash this is accomplished by......... I'm trying to find out XD

I don't see how this uses real gravity physics. I looks to me as though you've just got a button which launches balls around the stage.

Frenchie14

Every frame each ball compares its position to all of the other balls on stage and calculates the force of gravity on that ball using F = Gmm/r^2 (Newtonian gravity). It calculates the x and y forces of gravity from each ball then adds them together for the additive vector force result which is then divided by the planet's mass to get it's acceleration. Then it uses Kinematics (physics of movement) to calculate its speed and adds it to its current position. This is why spawning tons of planets will make your computer lag.

I agree with top master 360. All that makes it seem like gravity physics is the background. Add real gravity physics and I'll rate it with *****. I haven't rated yet of course. Please add gravity physics. End of coment.
