Description
Senet is an ancient Egyptian two player board game.
How to Play
The game is played on a board consisting of thirty squares. Each player starts with five markers placed on the top row of the board. The game is over when one player has removed all of their markers from the board.
Players take turns throwing a set of four sticks. After doing so, they move a single marker one space for each stick that lands dark side up. If no sticks land dark side up, they can move six spaces. If throwing a 1, 4, or 6, they get to go again.
If moving a marker would result in it landing on top of an opponent's undefended marker, the two markers are swapped. A marker is considered defended if it's adjacent to at least one other marker of the same color. One can not move a marker onto a defended marker.
There are four special squares. The first, third, and fourth of these are safe squares, and a marker here is always considered to be defended. The second square, the water, is a danger square. A marker landing here will be moved back to the second row. Finally, in the case of the third and fourth squares you may only move off the board from them if you throw exactly the correct number of sticks.

Wish there were an AI, or a server to play on.

There is a problem with the design of this game. The rules, as I understand them from some really cursory reading, say that if you roll the dice and can't move forward due to the positioning of your opponents pieces, then you must move backwards. This game doesn't allow the player to move backwards.

The throwing sticks are determined (at least in this version) by the coloration of the sticks (the darker brown sticks determine how many moves you get). We used to play this in class in 5th grade and my teacher would just use Popsicle sticks and color one side. We'd pick them all up and just throw them on the table.

Tips to improve the game: 1) explain how the sticks generate numbers or replace with dice 2) allow for computer to play as one of the players.
