Description

Currently I'm trying to develop a racing game. I'm new to Flash and ActionScript so don't expect the best game ever.

Usefull comments are welcome. I'll use them to improve my game. When I've made improvements I'll update the version of the game on Kongregate.

Current status: bag of crap on a track with a minimap

How to Play

Use arrow keys for movement; space for brake.

Thanks for the quick responses everyone! =)

I’ve added a track, to make it look more like a game. Map has been added A map, time tracking, visual effects and collision detection will be the next additions (in any order).

Control scheme is all right, animation is smooth,and decent speed (or more accurately, the illusion thereof). On top of the basic suggestions you've received (opponents, finish line, music and sound effects, etc), you should also consider the following: try to provide varying properties for differing types of terrain. Leaving the track should slow down your vehicle and increase your turn radius and amount of skid and drift, ice provides for massive skid, etc. Also, while I like your acceleration and deceleration here, the car has a near impossibly small turn radius, and no drift or skid at all. The addition of an emergency brake and some standard drift and skid will provide for a more authentic feel.

Next version will be zoomed out a bit. The window size itself remains the same. You're other suggestions are great. But i need some time to get the basics work. =)

@KSIHawk
As I'm still working on the game I couldn't find a fitting icon. Technically it's a bag with a question mark on it. It could be a bag 'o crap or a bag 'o snails or..

@others
Thanks for your support! I really like the enthusiasm you share with me. It makes the development a lot more fun to do. I'm trying to use most of your suggestions/comments coding the game.

I haven't implemented time functions yet. My first aim, is to change speed relative to the track, so it becomes useful. Competitors will be implemented later (few weeks), when most other things are done. Good AI is hard to code, so I like to tune my 'game' first.

@grimmrook
Types of terrain will be added. I'm working on the collision detection now, which also contains off-the-road driving, different speed bonuses/penalties. The problem is, I can't post a new version yet. The collision detection works fine, but hasn't been optimized. So the 'dev version' runs like a bag o' snails. Skid marks and drifting are also available in the new release.

Seems as though either the window is too small for the graphics or the graphics is too large for the window. Convertible is nice as a default car. Maybe as the game progresses, there could be multiple tracks and as you win each race, you could choose a different car, color, or a way to dress it up (airfoils, for example). I know that's a bit down the road, though.
