Excellent game, some of these puzzles are quite tricky.
As others have said would be nice to have markers on the level map as to which contain cogs (maybe a little cog symbol that starts dark grey and turns brass coloured when you've collected the cog?)
Levels with cogs:
Factory: 10, 14, 20
Outskirts: 7, 13, 14, 18
Tower: 1, 6, 21

A really good and challenging game, but REALLY needs some kind of symbol or tracker on the Level Select so that players know where the gears are, and how many they still need.
It shows you how many gears you need on the Level Select per world in the lower right. I never added indicators showing which levels have a gear because locating gears should become reasonably easy with the functionality you get after beating the game. However, seeing how much demand there is for it, I've changed my mind. I'll add indicators very soon.

Maybe give a sign of which levels have a gear so we can go back and do those levels later?

You turned the final level into a wins by doing (almost) nothing so we can watch the second ending without another deathtrap run! Nice!
