It could be a lot worse. It works really well for what it is, but you need to say some things in the rules that happen, but aren't explained.
When you land on the same space as another pawn they go back to start and you get another turn.
When you roll a six you get another turn.
When you reach the top of a ladder you get another turn.

In the first two turns of the game I had the opponent land on me, then he got another turn and landed on 10. On my turn I rolled a 3 and he rolled a 2 to climb up the ladder and get another turn, on which he rolled a 6 so he got a third turn. I was still on 3 and he was up in the 40's.
But if you add that rules explanation to the game it'll help with the confusion.
