Scrolling and hit detection need to be improved, but it was a great first effort!

Good start for a 10 week class. I agree that scrolling needs to be fixed. Also, when you go left from the starting point, you go off the screen and don't die or move back. I got stuck and had to reload the game. Maybe have some more animation in the characters, but what you had was fine for such a short time. A mummy also reached through a pillar and killed me from the other side as I stood next to the pillar. If I can't walk through a pillar, the enemy shouldn't be able to touch me either.

and hit detection on the knives is horrible, theres nothing there but I die.

so, the one major thing that I would say needs fixed is the scrolling, not scrolling till you are on top of the edge make the game annoying...oh I just walked into a mummy i didn't have any clue was there.
