Half-decent tutorial, but where's the other nine tenths of the game?

At first, I thought the spikes were an awful mechanic. Then, I realized. The spikes are a metaphor. Sometimes you have to cause yourself a small amount of pain, in order to succeed. No, I'm not serious, this game is just awful.
