Mabe you could add a health bar for the enemies and not make them 1 shot kill cos that's a bit too easy. A background would be nice cos black is a bit boring and some more upgrades would be good. Other than that it's a good game for a school project.

Also the attack type is a bit too simple and it could use some more types of enemy spaceships. It should be a bit harder aswell.

you need to make the UI not look so shitty - maybe add some ship settings (i,e you have 100 points, apply them to shields, movement speed or 2x/3x wep damage, etc) before each game - have some planets and stars floating around in the background - maybe even add a take-off/landing sequence for that certain je ne sais quoi.
