Spidle Tridle

About the balancing... it does come a point where iron upgrades are so expensive that upgrading or building other things becomes the best option, but that point seems to be somewhere around upgrade number 100. Afaik you don't even get any more iron research upgrades at this point so everything else, which you do still get upgrades for, outpaces it.

The biggest advantage you guys should always notice in this game is that the AI intentionally has a slight delay for all initial actions. You can use that to snatch planets and start growing first, grab the turret planets, or the teleporters. For instance, on level 34 I started by instantly using all my forces to secure one of the turrets, then capture all four orbiting planets, then work my way to the middle, capturing planets that come into the turret range or are close together. This way, I had 7+ planets to generate ships when the dark ships came out. An easy trick on any turret mission is taking advantage of the AI moving into or out of range of any turret. They will always lose tons of units. Even when it's just teleporters, if you take all the teleporters after getting a few planets the AI will be unable to reinforce instantly, while you keep that advantage. In addition, never engage with equal numbers, it's just a waste of time.

This is the best mostly text-based game I've ever come across. I hope you can continue to make more stories like this. I'll be looking out for them.

Would be great if we could access the settings menu from the town, I like to switch notations in the workshop/factory so it's easier to read compared to waves when scientific is the only thing that works for big numbers.

I remember playing through the second game a while ago before I even knew about the first. I forgot about it for so long. Still love it. Badges are still working; got all three on the first try. Not that I wouldn't continue playing just because of that.

I know this is supposed to be a clicker game, but I'm finding I can advance more quickly specifically excluding the bush whacker in my formation, focusing on DPS and gold drop enhancing crusaders. Best case scenario the bush whacker gives me about 15% extra dps if I'm willing to click 5-6 times a second for long periods (Carpal tunnel isn't fun, thanks). Any additional damage from clicking would be at the cost of over half my gold gain, which is a bit counter-productive for leveling since mob spawn rates are fixed at a slow rate.

Developer Reply

Thank you for the feedback. It is actually designed as a more idle/incremental game, but some players do implement clicking with the bonus from Swordplay and the Critical Click buffs when they wish to clear the last few areas of a tough objective.

I know a lot of people have mentioned the hobby leveling times, but I don't think I will finish the game in the next few months even thanks to the time it takes. Other than resetting to gain an additional 0.15 modifier time I can't do anything but open the game, check on it, and leave again after a few changes. Maybe you could add minigames to add to things people can do while waiting that would help improve specific hobbies. Maybe there could be increased difficulty levels that reduce the time remaining by a higher percentage of the total time each hobby takes.

Personally I'm getting sick of games like this appearing in my recommended list. I've tried games like this before, variations of Dawn of Dragons, decided I didn't like pay to win or pointless grinds and waiting, and quit. But now I am seeing the same skeleton resurrected, the same combat system, quests, facilities, progression, items, "competition", currency system, raiding, and hell even some of the artwork has been ripped. It has simply slapped on "sci-fi" as a genre and decided to wear it like a pin tag as though it would fool anyone that it were different. If annoying games like this are going to continue to advertise on kong, then I would prefer to have an option to remove the MMO genre from my recommended list entirely.

@whythecynic Just use the endless tower after the last boss. You can get a few thousand kills before you get wiped out, more depending on how many waves you get through.

Really like the elemental weakness aspect of the game. It was pretty clever. Took me a bit to figure out how to disable the shielded knights, but it looks like only a lightning arcane spell will remove the shield for sure, the rune power is a little unreliable for that.

Developer Reply

You can also use combustion rune upgrade to burn them! Burn damage ignores elemental defense, so it's one good way to deal with these guys.

For anyone wondering why this or any other flash game gets laggy over time, inspect this or search for "actionscript memory leak island" on google. http://stackoverflow.com/questions/14238300/why-isnt-the-as3-garbage-collector-picking-this-up

Kind of reminds me of ender's game, in a way. Very similar to how the simulator was described. This was really a great game though, the ending, background, and music went really well together. Hard game, too, but somehow I managed to get 108 stars.

One fix that might be nice is to see money "max out" and stop accumulating after a certain point. The integer overflow from 2 billion into -2 billion is something you could do about by using a long, scientific notation, or a money cap, so I think it's silly to let that slide. Also, how about fighting the king himself eventually? I killed like four hundred crystal golems and giants each already so I have a callistite sword and nice steel armor. It'd be cool to have a goal to work towards besides automation, even if it were hard and took a long time.

So, trying to beat this game on Deity has shown me some screwy game mechanics. First thing, risk % has nothing to do with the frequency of the barbarian attacks despite the tool tip saying otherwise. I've tried leaving no guards later in the game, getting 90%-100% risk of barbarian invasion, and nothing happened. So I tried recording the times events happened. They all tend to happen around the same times, and whether or not it's a bad event or good event seems to be what the risk % is about. Leaving no guards, for instance, got me a few hundred people eaten, when one of the event times came up. But, leaving more guards around those times made events not happen at all more often than not. Seems if there's less chance of a bad event, good events don't necessarily take their place.

Got all my starry nights and even though I still don't have all my starry days, I give up! I'm definitely done now. I hate you, ninjas! Eat meteor, robots! Also guys, level 20 is definitely doable, but you have to keep in mind, even if you haven't "activated" one of the lighthouses your goal is to keep the gems safe. Save the mana for your spells and only go for lighthouses when ninjas, robots, divers, or smugglers are *not* coming for you. I recommend all the skills ever. Use everything. No grinding necessary.

Hard mode is quite challenging, but like others have said, levels 3 and 4 are fairly trivial in comparison to the other puzzles. Cool game, I don't like the auto-locking though. Instead of that, maybe make the "puzzle borders" less obtrusive? A lot of detail is lost in the borders especially when you divide it so many times.

I could be wrong, but isn't it supposed to be "2-Thrust" instead of "2-Thurst"?

Pretty cool game. The first time took me about 27 mins, so nice for such a short timed escape game. But, I ended up spending the most amount of time trying to improve my score. Also, another way of using the valve is to drag it from just under the middle of the knob to the right and up at sort of a ~15 degree angle slowly. If you mess up and don't fill the gauge the first time don't release the mouse, just move back and forth in the opposite direction to reduce your click count.

You only pass that lonely house in the middle of nowhere once. Are there any other houses ever? But seriously, this game is awesome. I think it would be interesting to see some kind of post-crash demolition animation though.

This is a really cool game, and I intend to play it all the way through, but one complaint that I have is that a couple of the end-tier weapons seem to be slightly worse than the one just before it. The RPG and the desert eagle are the offenders. The RPG does a lot more damage per shot but it also reloads considerably slower too. And the desert eagle, it does more damage and reloads faster but you have such a small clip size that you end up reloading a lot more often than you would like.
