has anyone tried to make a map yet? i'm sorry, but it's really bugging me that i can't get to the dying old man...can ANYONE help me, please?!??!

so maybe i hit a glitch, but after finding the missing piece to the ship, i can't seem to progress anymore. The Hint says to swim under the giant wall and visit the dying old man in the room (or something to that effect). I can't seem to find access to the man (i see him when i drop down the hole where the father and son are, but i can't get to him. Any help?
