Obeying someone simply because they tell you to leads to a bland, unhappy existence, where others are happy, but you aren't. Disobeying because someone tells you not to leads to a confusing mess, where you aren't happy (but neither is anyone else), and where it's impossible to get farther in life (failing over and over again because you're told not to won't let you get to the end of the game, after all). The best method is to choose for yourself the options that make sense. Obeying when you're told to touch the statue makes sense. Disobeying when you're told to take the lower path does not (it's harder). Choosing things for yourself is the only way to be happy. Letting other people make your choices for you (including disobeying for the sake of disobeying) won't do anything but make you unhappy. That's what I got out of it, at any rate. Oh yeah, and awesome game.
