It seems like the music doesn't stop when Pilot Mode is engaged, which leads me to feel like the music doesn't actually "create" a track, but just the visuals of it, is this true or? Just curious as to what elements of the gameplay are influenced by the music and what ones aren't :)

Don't do anything when you start the level. Around 200 seconds in, you'll start hearing some pretty odd, disturbing noises that sound like a human-horse hybrid neighing and some groaning and mumbling... and even someone cheering.
