The Monster

Fear and confusion in her eyes
The maiden looked at me
She couldn’t believe that I was
The monster that she did see

She wondered why as she did die
As her blood flowed downward
I looked around then ran away
The monster ran homeward

Once at my house I walked around
The monster locked away
And no one knew what was hidden
Behind my suave display

Many girls heard what I did say
The last words they would hear
They had thought they knew about me
“I’m sorry for this dear”

The struggle of seeming normal
It hurts, but it’s okay
I am used to this endless fight
Monster hidden by day

After these years of fighting it
Am I a man or a beast?
Or something in between?
Should I control or feast?

I lose more control every day
Sometime I want to shout
But no one ever seems to see
My darkness spilling out

As the monster tries to escape
As the days turn to years
The cage I have built is failing
Realizing my fears

I now live in dread of the day
When the monster inside
Becomes monster outside, but then
I will not have to hide

I have a choice that I have to make
