You need not avoid making any contact at all with the spikes while playing - simply the tip. Once it has passed into the bottom of the gaming area you can safely travel through them. Maybe an interesting note, I guess.

it seems like when you upgrade to larger initial mana pool your regen gets shot to hell, and it doesnt scale with the new max mana
