At first I was thinking 'oh, she's ignoring me... maybe she's mad at me?' And thought at first that the gifts I was giving had to do with apology, but then I noticed the subtle beginnings of the shadow effect on the main character... then, second to last gift I found, the flower next to the grave was that 'aha...' moment, and I realized that as the world was becoming more colorful and 'real' I was starting to be less and less a part of the real world, because I was dead. Just try to make a movie or book where the protagonist is dead, and the hints are subtle enough, while the whole thing doesn't seem like a lazy writing choice. Good thing video games are now by law an art form.
