I am trying to play for the badge of the day. All I see is a white square with a smaller black rectangle in the upper left. Is this the puzzle or is my computer not liking the game?

are there any uses for the random misc items other than selling them? I have hung on to almost everything I have found

I have to agree that an auto save would be great..maybe everytime you descend farther down, or everytime you stay at the inn. Been playing a few hours now and the screen went white with an ! in the middle of it...nothing I can do now
