I can't seem to buy anything else in the shop. Am I only supposed to be able to buy one thing per game?

I seem to be unable to get any respect fomr the merchant's guild. I've done several quests, and am 'kill on sight' with the mercenary guild, but still at 'Friendly : 0/3000" with the merchants...
