I never once used the Temporary Upgrades and finished all game with 3 stars (easy and hard). For me, flak cannons + plasma towers + waste spewer in early waves and adding only tesla towers in late waves worked just fine. Really easy game, no challenge. You can improve so many things in this :) Good luck!
