At the earlier stages, as a way to get a bit more cash, I always leave a priest up as the last guy (if possible) so that I can spend my time taking out the castle. When there is only a priest out he only goes to the middle and waits for as long as you need! Makes for an easy target too.

In addition to what incredifan said: "want to earn some money? surrender right before you win. if you keep doing this, the money will stay and you can upgrade your troops without taking over other lands. keep doing this until your men are un beatable!keep this comment alive." Simply take out the enemy posts with the highest level of difficulty first; this leaves the remaining provinces very easy to push over at the end. Great game
