Theres a post in the forum for a workaround on the save issue. It's pretty easy, use a hex editor and change however many sol files you have for the game. Change the 4th hex pair from 00 to 07. been working for me just fine.

beat it at level 32 mage, final boss didnt hit me once :D

This game is freakin hard... How do you kill the waves of the high HP monsters like the balrog looking guys, I think they were called daemons and the couple earlier waves of ogres???
