When you pay to upgrade a factory, make sure you assign the points in the its side panel to receive their bonuses.

It's a cool concept and an otherwise entertaining game completely bogged down by a very jerky and frustrating control system.

Suggestion: Give the ranger some range, (maybe halfway between the current melee and current ranged attacks) he's got a Giant lance after all.
