@mastermorgan: A hunting rifle is the best choice. You don't intend on engaging in CQC and firepower alongside range is excellent. A shotgun is devastating at close range, the spread capable of decimating multiple Z's or guaranteeing a kill on a single one, but you are right when it comes to range. The automatic pistol and SMG will burn through your ammo reserves rapidly, but they're good for mowing down large hordes of zed-heads. Every gun has it's strengths and weaknesses. You gotta understand that. Of course, there is the option of killing zombies with nothing but your bare hands...
