you got 8 slots for buildings, counting from left to right, I always build a petshop in slot 5 and after the 1st day you have enough for a boutique, I always put a newsstand on the far left after building those 2. after upgrading petshop once I build a bus stop, and I save the 4 slots to the left for Restaurant, Market, furniture and jewlery (in that exact order) the restaurant and market slow down the people and let others pass to shop, and people also take their time in the furniture and jewlery. Now..I always fully uppgrade Pet shop Boutique and Toystore before building anything else. I'm up to level 13 and I haven't had any problems since I figured out this routine at lev 5... Hope this helps.
