Topic: Games / why is RUNESCAPE rated so badly its a FREE game run on JAVA

It got TOO popular, and people started macroing, real world trading, and STEALING credit cards. That’s right. According to some guy on the RuneScape forums “it got to the point where it was so bad that credit card companies were going to stop letting people sign up for membership by credit card, due to the massive amount of credit card fraud cases they had to file because of the stolen credit cards. So they needed to fill in every possible crack RTWers can slip through”. This led to the removal of the wilderness and the addition of the 3k trade limit, which caused alot of negative feedback.

Before that though, people called it too babyish, since the only real fighting is “click on an enemy and kill him”. No guns, no blood, no real strategy.

But it was Jagex’s fault too. For example, this can really happen in Fist Of Guthix.



Poor level 3 can’t even collect a single charge before that level 138 hits him with a Zamorak Godsword and wipes out all of his 10 hp. The 138 can collect all the charges he wants, the level 3 can’t do anything with his bronze dagger unable to get past his dragon armor (should have been Barrows or maybe 3rd Age or something, but too late now)

Sort of, my friend’s a Flash Developer and he managed to send me some notes, so..

EDIT: PROBLEM SOLVED

The problem was that I had been working with a CharacterBase MC and put all of my code THERE, but then I decided to convert the CharacterBase into a symbol (so a symbol inside a symbol) called Character. I put my ActionScript into my Character, but the CharacterBase already had AS, so it used the AS from my CharacterBase, while I was changing the Character code, which had no effect since Flash was negating it anyway.

Okay, so I’m creating a ball game (sort of) and 2 things aren’t working:

1. You’re not supposed to move up or down, so I removed the function for ifKeyisDown for up or down, but it STILL moves up or down. I’m not sure if it can be solved if I remove everything else, but I need the power and friction for something. (How can you move up and down when there’s COMPLETELY no code for any moving of the y axis?)

2. Walls don’t work. When my ball hits a wall, it’s supposed to go to a losing frame, yet it just passes through it.

I’m using AS2 by the way.
