There are three directories of 5 songs each, but we’re gonna REALLY TRY to keep the update timelines we set for ourselves.

We like games. We hope you can use some of this.

I’ll just say that he is really nice to work with, and the CC music is sweet.

Thanx.

Just like to point out that there are no fees for custom audio/editing for all y’all game designers here on Kongregate.

I’d love to try my hand at some sort of rhythm-game music.

Hey – that’s some nice stuff! I’ve been pondering starting a game, and music was one of my big question marks. This is an excellent resource, thank you!

Actually, can we sticky this thread, or some new thread, that would list resources for audio for game developers? Things such as recommended sound editors (free/demo/pay), music editors (free/demo/pay), freely available sounds/music, etc.? This would be extremely helpful for those of us who would like to create games but are better at programming than music.

I’d be happy to throw my 1.5 cents worth of information for that topic.

Of Possible Humor Value To Flash Programmers: http://www.operation42.com/flashmp3.html (with apologies to Queen) Someone (not on Kongregate) asked for this specifically, presumably for some sort of flash skillz demo. Then he fell off the face of the earth. Hope it gives someone a chuckle.

@LeftRight

is your music free for commercial use in flash games as well?

Creative commons actually protects your work from being used as a commercial work, which is completely fine, until you consider that every game uploaded to kongregate is a commercial work, considering it makes money. In fact, nearly every flash game you put online becomes commercial, unless you release it completely free of advertising/sponsorship.

BTW, I could be absolutely wrong on if thats the true way the liscence works, its just the understanding ive gained from talking to other people on other forums.

He said I could use it in my future commercial game.

Keefer: There are different licenses under the CC umbrella; one of them is simply to be attributed if the work is used, which is the one we have going. It’s one tiny step away from being public domain. http://creativecommons.org/license/

In this instance all music in our creative commons directory can be modified and/or used for commercial work.

Smig: Your case was only slightly different in that it was requested as opposed to just downloaded. As per our conversation, it is yours to do with as you please, including commercial work.

Side note: We’ve seen some download traffic, but practically no emails about use. This is not a requirement. It makes it easy on you guys and gals to just have a no hassle, no cost, no ad-in-your-face way to get at what will hopefully be a much larger library. Buuuuut, please let us know if you are going to use something! Just as a courtesy…it is nice to see how people apply the music.

I’ll like some pretty Heavy Metal loop, pretty please :(

avatar for LeftRight LeftRight 207 posts

As in, ’...that is pretty heavy…’ or ’...that is pretty, for being heavy…?’

Ha! Sorry, bad joke. I’ll try to get in contact with you.

I think the downloads with no emails comes from the fact that we just want to give the music a listen and to see if it would work out with any games or future games. Or at least that is why i have downloaded it. I haven’t listened to it yet, so no opinion on that matter yet.

I dont know if many of you use this resource. But There is actualy this humble little website wich has devoted an entire section of itself for people to create CC music for developers of games and stuff to use…. and its free…

.... www.newgrounds.com/audio

LeftRight, I’ve just visited your website and really liked some of the sounds on there. Also, that newsground audio portal has got loads of awesome songs.
I would love to use some of these for my game I’m planning to develop before next year…all I need is abit of time (get adobe flash, photoshop and learn actionscript)! This will be pretty tough to fit in when you have a job, social life…etc. damn, I want to give up already.
Does anyone have any decent links to sound effects?

lockzor, Newgrounds Audio Portal’s CC says that the music can not be used in commercial purposes.

avatar for LeftRight LeftRight 207 posts

An unfortunate side effect of Newgrounds.

Acaully I’m pretty sure that if you ask the creator of the song they would gladly let you use it. Plus it says you have to give credit to the creator so why else would they have that there other than if you download it to give credit to the person.
