theres this rdical game system coming out called the pandora. Its the same size as a ds but can play homkebrew, play games, music, vidiio or almost anything you can imagine!check it out!!!!
How did this system come to be?
The Pandora is a unique machine. It was designed based on the input of thousands of forum users with one goal in mind – to make the ultimate open source handheld device.
How powerful is it?
It is by far the most powerful handheld in the world both in terms of raw CPU power and 3D graphics capability, it will be able to handle things such as Firefox3 or Quake3 with ease.
When and where can I buy it?
It is already available to selected developers and preorders in approximately August for casual users via UK, USA, Canada, Germany and Turkey.
How much will it cost?
Around £199 (inc VAT), $330, Euro212 (Ex.VAT).
What is the device designed for?
It is designed as an ultra portable open source computer with gaming controls, it is very small, around about the same size as a DS. It can easily fit in your pocket.
Why such a radical design?
The design is actually a simple clamshell which gives maximum protection, maximum control layout and of course maximum battery size.

no way man its comfy and like i said its the same size and design as the ds but the just filled the space in between the d-pad and the nuttons with a keypad. Its like a portable computer, third party developers make soft ware for it,which means it can do many things!

1) no homebrew on psp unless you get a chip.
2)this is more powerfull system.
3) duel analog stick except one.4)clamshell design.5)runs on sd cards except more expensive memory stick duo
the obvious choice: pandora.
quality is better than quantity |

Do you work for the company or something? Because its sure starting to sound like you do. Its not a bad idea, but its been done in so many different ways already. For example, Mini-Laptops. |

Sounds like a laptop. I’ve already got one. |

I have seen so many portables fail to have any faith in this one. There really are only a handful of companies that did portables right, and they got their start in the home console business. I’d say that this will end up like the Gizmondo, the Zodiac, the N-Gage, the Game.com… |

It’s too difficult for small companies to make new consoles now a days. It’s ugly and clunky, and won’t have close as much good software as the PSP or DS. I’m sure that most people would be happier with an iPhone than that ugly thing. |

It looks cool, but I dont see anything there that a Laptop or a Gaming PC or Xbox 360 cant already do. |

I bet you a 100 pounds it will flop. It tries to be a portable computer oh wait we’ve had those for years. Besides the PsP tried to do a graphics focused hand held and that flopped too. |

I don’t know that I’d call it a new “Gaming System”, but it looks pretty freakin’ sweet. No NeoX, it’s not going to do anything a laptop can’t do, and certainly won’t approach the capabilities of a next-gen gaming rig or system. However, it’s perhaps the cheapest and most portable laptop (palmtop, really) I’ve ever seen. Frankly, I don’t look at this as a gaming machine, but rather as an evolution of portable computing that will reduce the edge that “smartphones” currently have. I mean, are you kidding me? I fully functioning, well-equipped Linux computer, with touch-screen, in my pocket? With gaming controls? That has so much potential if they market it well. |

Didn’t you have to take out the battery to insert a cartidge? Very consumer friendly.
Games make a console, the console doesn’t make the games. I’ll reserve judgement, but hype is hype. |

This is a ugly looking, accident prone system that ive seen. Why not buy a laptop though? You can play vertually any game in the world on the internet and buy pc games like never winter nights or world of warcraft which are better then some of the games ive seen on the ds. like that game where you raise animals. |

I’m not understanding the hate here. It costs the same as a DS, and yet it runs on Open Source, meaning anyone can write for it. With community support, it could have a large library of free games. Have any of you guys actually seen more then a picture of this device? No? Then don’t call it clumsy. I quite like the idea, and if it takes off, will buy one.
The Style is so Stolen from Nintendo Ds, All together it’s a Failure.
Or maybe it’s taken from a laptop, due to the lack of dual screens?
have any of you seen that thing?
Have you?
Just repeat this in your head. A powerful Linux system in your pocket, able to play hundreds of free games for just around 200 pounds. With Open Source so anyone can modify it. |
